{"id":5591693885590,"title":"Antique Chinese Export Silver Bowl, Matte Silver Exterior \u0026 Gilded Interior, Wang Hing, Hong Kong Or China – Circa 1910","handle":"antique-chinese-export-silver-bowl-matte-silver-exterior-and-gilded-interior-wang-hing-hong-kong-or-china-circa-1910","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis highly unusual and sophisticated Chinese silver bowl has a pronounced matte satin finish to the silver exterior which provides a strong contrast to the lustre and richness of the shiny gilded interior.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bowl takes the form of an upturned flower with a gently flared and petal shaped rim.  It stands on a shaped and pierced pedestal foot and the eight ‘petal segments’ have been ornamented in repousse and chased technique with restrained naturalistic depictions in the traditional Chinese style.  Motifs include a selection of birds flying amongst trees or perching on branches.  Other depictions are of grasses, bamboo, flowering plants and shrubs including paeonies, chrysanthemums, orchids and cherry blossom.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bowl is in exceptional, near perfect, original condition and was retailed by the notable firm of Wang Hing in the early years of the 20\u003csup\u003eth\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ecentury.  Wang Hing had premises in Canton, Hong Kong and Shanghai and traded between the years of 1854 and 1941. The firm was renowned for its high quality and constantly innovative silverware of which this is a very fine example.
