The rims of the dishes are cast and chaste with a bold and restrained rococo decoration incorporating foliage, flowers and scallop shells in a typical Regency manner. The tops on the covers are devised as a bold leaf and fruit design, heavily chased, with an entwined foliate branch of acanthus forming the actual handle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach of the lids is adorned with a finely engraved coat of arms with crest above while each of the dishes has an engraved crest. The arms are those of Broughton quartered with Tooke impaling Smethwick and the crest, of a sea dog, is also of the Broughton family.
